How Much Do Virtual Customer Service Agents Earn?

Virtual customer service agents earn anywhere from $7 to $30+ per hour. The average is nearer $10 to $15 per hour. Virtual sales agent jobs pay the highest.

Unlike many work from home jobs where the company treat you as an independent contractor, virtual customer service agents are typically hired as employees.

Home Office Requirements

For virtual customer service jobs, you typically need a:

  • quiet place to work online, free of background noise, such as kids, barking dogs, traffic, doorbells, TVs, radios, etc. So you can't work in your local cafe.
  • Windows computer/laptop (Mac OS is generally not supported).
  • high speed DSL/cable wired connection to the internet (no wireless connection)
  • wired telephone/USB headset with microphone (no wireless phones)
  • dedicated landline with telephone service (separate from your home phone line) with your local phone company, or a digital telephone service (AT&T U-verse, Verizon FIOS, Comcast Digital Voice, Cox Communications, Time Warner Cable, etc.) - No voice-over IP phone services (Skype, Vonage, Magic Jack, etc.), cellular phones, or satellite phones.

Background/Credit Check Fees

None of the companies listed in this section charge a fee to apply for a virtual customer service job.

However, some companies such as LiveOps and Alorica do require you to pay for your own background and credit checks, which is usually conducted by a third party.

If you decide to operate your own micro call center business with the Arise Platform, you have to pay $50 to $250 for a client program certification course, which provides training to ensure you know how to provide the level of customer service a client requires.

These are not scams. These companies are legitimate, with tens of thousands of customer service agents working for them. So don't let the fees put you off applying to those companies.

What Happened To Convergys Work From Home?

Convergys Work From Home was my number one virtual customer service job.
